15 refugee-friendly mayors shortlisted for World Mayor Prize 2016

The names of the 15 nominees shortlisted for the 2016 World Mayor Prize have now been made public. These are 15 mayors who, with their communities, “have made exceptional efforts to welcome refugees and integrate migrants.” 

This year, the theme for the World Mayor Prize is migrants and refugees. The winner will be a mayor “whose city has done the most to welcome immigrants and has used their skills to enrich and diversify society culturally, economically and socially.”
Mayor Mirjam van ‘t Veld (Amstelveen, Netherland), Mayor Ada Colau (Barcelona, Spain), Mayor Henriette Reker (Cologne, Germany), Mayor Giusi Nicolini (Lampedusa, Italy), Mayor Spiros Galinos (Lesbos, Greece), Mayor Brita Hagi Hasan (Aleppo ‘East’, Syria) and Mayor Hasan Kara (Kilis, Turkey) are among the nominees.
