Stadt Dortmund

Dortmund is the 8th biggest cities in the Federal Republic of Germany and home to people from more than 180 nations.

As an internationally oriented city, Dortmund maintains numerous relationships with partners all over the world.  Against the background of an advancing globalization and increasing transnational challenges (such as climate change, digitization, mobility, pandemics) international orientation is an essential component of sustainable local politics.

The City of Dortmund is increasingly involved in municipal development policy and project-based, international municipal cooperation. The aim of international project partnerships is to cooperate as equals, profit from each other’s knowledge and experience and promote the implementation of the SDGs in both countries or regions. Projects are currently being carried out in Dabola/Guinea, Kumasi/Ghana, Bondo/Kenya, Dura/Palestine and Cluj-Napoca/Romania. The City of Dortmund is also involved in numerous European and international networks, especially in the field of migration, and strongly welcomes the exchange of experience and best practices.
