Launch of first CONNECT-Covenant of Mayors exchange: learn from colleagues about climate!
The CONNECT team is happy to present to you a new opportunity for learning through an exchange with colleagues: in this case specifically, an exchange between signatories of the Covenant of Mayors in Europe and the Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa (CoM SSA), as announced during the event « Continuing Professional Development Course: Climate Response and Sustainable Urban Development in Africa » held on 3-6 September 2018 in Saly, Senegal.
We are looking for cities engaged in the CoM SSA initiative that have come across issues and/or problems related to climate change response and sustainable urban development. On what topics could external support and inter-Mayoral cooperation be of benefit to you?
Especially high level technicians and practitioners involved in the aforementioned themes are encouraged to apply for the exchange. In case there is a need for a Mayor to take part in the exchange, this is possible but the reasons why will have to be substantiated on the application form.
In order to help you with defining a topic of interest for your cities, please find below a list of potential themes:
- Sharing experience on how to prepare strategy / climate action plan and how to put in place monitoring & evaluation tools for its implementation
- Sharing experience on existing methodologies / systems for collecting data & data analysis
- Sharing experience on waste management and the 3 R’s (reduction, reuse and recycling)
- Sharing experience on awareness raising in waste management projects
The format of this exchange will be a ‘CONNECT group exposure visit’. This means that we ask you to apply as a group (max. 8 cities; from one or multiple countries), with a joint challenge which you would like to work on with European cities. You can find the application forms here (EN) and here (FR) and add a letter of engagement in French or English (you can apply as a Francophone group or an Anglophone group). The exchange is expected to take place before the end of the year. Details on date and place will follow after a match with a European town or city has been made by the CONNECT selection committee.
