AIMF Congress in Lausanne: key takeaways
Nearly 500 mayors and representatives of French-speaking capitals and cities from 40 countries met in Lausanne from 22 to 24 May for the 44th Congress of the International Association of French-speaking Mayors (AIMF). Decentralised cooperation, which is particularly dynamic and innovative in the French-speaking world, was at the heart of the discussions.
The 2024 Congress was also marked by important institutional events, including the election of a new Bureau made up of 30 Mayors from capital cities and metropolitan areas, and the appointment of former CEMR Secretary General of CEMR Frédéric Vallier as General Delegate, succeeding Pierre Baillet, Permanent Secretary since 2009.
Lastly, the Congress was an opportunity to present the AIMF 2024 Francophone Women’s Prize to two personalities, and to reward three winning organisations in the 1st edition of the AIMF-City of Geneva International Prize for Gender Equality.
