Contribution to the consultation on the Panafrican programme

The European Commission organised a consultation, via the Policy forum for development, on the Panafrican programme.

The consultation document does not mention the role of local and regional governments in development and the role that they could play in the implementation of this program.

The PLATFORMA contribution recalls the European Union’s political commitment with regards to the support to local and regional governments in partner countries and underlines the relevance to support initiatives of the African Union linked to local governance and decentralisation.

The draft contribution identifies the competences of local/regional governments, relevant under the areas covered by the programme in order to demonstrate the need to actively involve them to the actions undertaken through this programme.
