[NEW DATE] Gender responsive budgeting in action for women’s safety in cities

Sexual harassment remains a global issue, facing women and girls all over the world in different settings, including in public spaces, transportation, and online. Around the world, local and regional governments have varying responsibilities that often include public safety, urban planning, infrastructure development, transportation planning, gender equality, and sports and recreation, among others.

Across these various areas of responsibility, there are noted gender gaps, which fail to consider women’s and girls’ unique needs and interests, including their right to live a life free of violence. One tool used by municipal governments in various countries to close these gaps is gender responsive budgeting (GRB) to integrate gender equality into planning and budgeting processes.
