How decentralised cooperation can contribute to the SDGs’ implementation at the local level?

18 mayo 2016

The Basque Government, PLATFORMA, the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions of Europe (CPMR) and the UNDP ART Initiative – Hub for Territorial Partnerships co-organise a seminar on localising SDGs on 14 June 2016 in Brussels.

The aim of the seminar entitled Integrated territorial partnerships and SDGs: how to «leave no one behind» is to exchange with a wide range of stakeholders on how Territorial Partnerships & Decentralized Cooperation can be adapted and contribute to Sustainable Development Goals’ (SDGs) implementation, ensuring better lives at local level.
The Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development which was adopted at the UN World Summit on Sustainable Development, 25 September 2015, recognises the role of local and Regional Governments in the implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in coordination with other local, national and international players.
Local and Regional Governments (LRGs) have been acting for decades for sustainable development and in international cooperation. The growing importance of their responsibilities in local and national public policies around the world, position them as critical partners.
Therefore, LRGs, together with other local stakeholders such as civil society organisation, Academia and private sector, must be placed at the center of the SDGs implementation process.
