NEW DEADLINE! Apply for the EU Cities for Fair and Ethical Trade Award!

13 mars 2018

Applications are open until the 20th of April 2018! The European Commission launched the first EU Cities for Fair and Ethical Trade Award! The award is part of the EU’s efforts to raise awareness about how purchasing decisions of EU consumers can affect the environment and livelihoods of people in other countries – and the role that cities and local authorities have to play. Informed decision-making of EU consumers and the role of cities as platforms for increasing information flows about such sustainability schemes are at the core of this award.

What is the Award all about?

This award, the first of its kind, was created to recognise and reward European local authorities that promote fair, ethical and sustainable trade practices. It is about the power of local authorities and its citizens to lead the way in championing innovative trade practices at the local level.

The timeline

Ask your questions directly to the Fair Trade Advocacy Office representatives during a webinar on the 14th of March 2018 at 2.30pm.

Applications are open until the 20th of April 2018. The first winner will then be announced on the 27th of June 2018.

Back to back to the award ceremony, the Fair Trade Advocacy Office is organising the Conference ‘From local to global: Scaling up Fair Trade in Europe’ in order to trigger a discussion on what EU and national policy makers could do to support the up-scale of local Fair Trade initiatives. The Conference will take place on 27-28 June 2018. A more detailed agenda of the event, which will probably take place at the Committee of the Regions, will be soon available. For more information on the conference, please contact sinigaglia@fairtrade-advocacy.org.
