The internationalisation of territories, a major challenge and a strong asset for local governments
[dates updated on 2 April 2020]
The 11th edition of Cités Unies France «Rencontres» of local authorities’ international action are organised on 21 & 22 September 2020 (instead of 6 & 7 July due to COVID-19 crisis & the postponment of the 2nd round of municipal local elections), at the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie, Paris – La Villette. In an increasingly interdependent world, the need to open up territories to an international level – directly with their citizens –, has become a categorical imperative.
Mainly, the capacity of local authorities to articulate local issues with global issues, as well as to implement global agendas – especially the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – is now recognised, both by States and by other institutional players.
A few months after the French municipal elections, this Meeting will represent an important event for the elected representatives – both new and experienced –, by focusing on information and raising awareness of the importance of the of local authorities’ international action.
More than ever, local authorities must be able to implement transversal policies that broaden and strengthen the skills of local representatives and agents, policies which promote their territories by opening up economic, cultural and governance perspectives.
In 2020, CUF “Rencontres” offers to explore together four main themes:
1. Get the keys and understand current geopolitical issues, constraints and opportunities;
2. Take stock of local authorities’ international action;
3. Which tools are available for local representatives to act globally? (engineering, finance, assistance, country and thematic groups…)
4. Immersion in the heart of action: face-to-face meetings with foreign partners, escape game, face-to-face meetings with French «experienced» elected officials, micro-workshops with technical and financial partners…
Take part in this 11th edition of the Meeting of the international action of local authorities!
Online registration will open on 22 June 2020 (instead of 20 April).
