21 octubre 2019

On 17 October 2019 PLATFORMA participated at the 6th Steering Committee of Mobilise your City (MyC), a global multi-stakeholder network initiative, which promotes integrated sustainable urban mobility planning in partner countries, and supports partner cities in developing Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs).

As a Knowledge and network partner, PLATFORMA presented upcoming network events relevant for MyC partner cities: The Mediterranean of the Future – Act III. Investment in the Mediterranean (by Région Sud-PACA, 26 November 2019, Marseille), the EU-Morocco Forum on Decentralised Cooperation (by FAMSI, 27-28 January 2020, Sevilla [tbc]), and the Congress of European Municipalities and Regions (by CEMR, 6–8 May 2020, Innsbruck).

The Steering Committee discussed and approved the applications of new cities to be included in the initiative’s work—Loja (Ecuador), Cuenca (Ecuador), Dodoma (Tanzania), and Windhoek (Namibia), the MyC initiative will accompany and support them in drafting, adopting and implementing Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP). Furthermore cities supported by the EU’s Euroclima+ programme, a European Commission programme which aims to encourage cooperation between Latin America and the EU on climate change issues, will be involved in the partnership: Ambato (Ecuador), and Teresina (Brasil).

The European Cyclist Federation (ECF) became a new Knowledge and network partner of the initiative. ECF is the world’s largest cyclists’ advocacy focusing on development of cycling as accessible and sustainable mode of transport. MyC also discussed joining the Action towards Climate-Friendly Transport (ACT) initiative, a global coalition aiming to catalyse transport as an enabler of sustainable development, in line with the 2030 Agenda and the Paris agreement. Next meeting of the MyC Steering Committee is due to take place on 6 March 2020 in Berlin.
