22 septiembre 2023

After the cancellation of the 13th edition, Cités Unies France succeeded in bringing together more than 500 participants, including 130 French local and regional authorities, as well as representatives from more than 30 countries, including foreign delegations, ambassadors and embassy representatives, on 18-19 September in Paris.

At the opening of this 14th edition, François Rebsamen, President of Cités Unies France, Mayor of Dijon and President of Dijon Métropole, and Dan Lert, Deputy Mayor of Paris, recalled the necessity and the specificity of the action of cities and territories on the international scene. The plenary session, thanks to testimonies from different backgrounds, supported a plea for the international commitment of French local authorities. Among the speakers were CEMR Secretary General, Fabrizio Rossi, Deputy Mayor of Lille Marie-Pierre Bresson or Vice President of Montpellier metropole Clare Hart. She just landed back from the SDG Action weekend in New York, ahead of the United Nations General Assembly’s on the mid-term review of the 2030 Agenda.

Dominique Faure, French Minister for local governments and rural affairs, also attended the conference.

During various sessions and workshops, the conference provided an opportunity for French and foreign local authorities to exchange ideas, share approaches and create links and opportunities for cooperation. PLATFORMA was there to present its activities and the upcoming European Days of Local Solidarity (EDLS) during a mini workshop organised by Lur Fernandez Salinas.
