PLATFORMA’s perspective on the New European Consensus on Development
A new Consensus on Development replacing a previous development framework in place since 2005 was signed into force at the European Development Days opening ceremony on 7 June in Brussels. This Consensus recognises the role of local and regional governments in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and commits to support decentralisation reforms and decentralised cooperation.
A successful partnership for the SDGs should imply the integration of the local perspective in all sectors and levels of governments. This would create the necessary pre-conditions to develop effective tools and strategies to achive the SDGs.
