“The internationalisation of towns & regions” meeting and Seminar «Crossing perspectives between Latin America and Europe», 4-5 July, Paris

30 abril 2018

The next edition of the “Internationalisation of towns & regions” meeting (Rencontres de l’internationalisation des collectivités territoriales) will take place on Wednesday, July 4 at the Pavillon d’Armenonville in Paris. This 9th meeting is organized by Cités Unies France, with its historic partners: the Ministry of Europe and for Foreign Affairs, the French Development Agency and the PLATFORMA network, supported by the European Commission.

For this renewed and participative meeting, Cités Unies France has developed its new strategic project around a triple requirement: proximity with local authorities, strengthening services to provide them, visibility of actions.

This one-day meeting is structured around the following theme: «Which specific role for local and regional governments to face the challenges of growing urbanization? What is our vision of the world of 2030? What approach to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?».

Thanks to the plenary sessions and the various workshops organized, this event will be an opportunity to define together the international action of local authorities of 2030, to take part in the change, and to imagine and co-build the 10th CUF meeting of 2019.

Crossing perspectives between Latin America and Europe

This day will be followed the next day (9:00 to 17:00 at the Paris City Hall) by a seminar entitled «Towards sustainable international action. Crossing perspectives between Latin America and Europe». It is organized by Cités Unies France, the Euro-Latino-American Alliance for Urban Cooperation (AL-LAs), the Mercociudades and PLATFORMA networks, and the City of Paris, with the support of the European Commission.

It is dedicated to elected officials and representatives of international relations and/or cooperation departments of European and Latin American local authorities, universities and civil society.

The aim of the seminar is to share the elements that contribute to consolidating sustainable processes of internationalization through the practical experience of local and regional authorities in Europe and Latin America

Several local governments have put in place internationalization processes that have been successful for some time, especially during the term of office of the elected representative who put them in place. However, because of their weak institutional anchoring, these processes are placed in standby mode or abandoned as a result of political changes and institutional or socio-economic shifts. In this context, how to ensure the sustainability of these processes?
