Focus on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable development during SALAR’s International Day
On January 20th, our partner SALAR organized its International Day 2020 in Stockholm. More than 180 representatives from municipalities and regions gathered to discuss the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), international development cooperation and EU policy such as the new programming period 2021-2027.
Among the speakers was the Swedish Minister for the Environment and Climate, Isabella Lövin, who highlighted the important role of municipalities and regions in the global sustainability work. “The work on the Sustainable Development Goals is to a large extent local. What you do constitutes good examples, examples that we can include in the international debate”, Lövin said.
The keynote speech of SALAR’s President Anders Knape in which he gave his views on the importance of continuing to exchange experiences at local and regional level within the EU and through international partnerships was also appreciated.
SALAR’s International Day is an annual event for SALAR’s members and in particular politicians and civil servants from municipalities and regions with interest in EU-and international affairs. The International Day 2020 had a specific thematic focus on the SDGs and decentralised development cooperation.
