Rekava secondary school students played with the SDGs

14 décembre 2023

The students at Rekava secondary school in Balvi municipality (Latvia) learned about the UN Sustainable Development Goals by playing an interactive game. This activity was organised nn 24 November in the framework of the European Local Solidarity Days (EDLS).

The students of Rekava secondary school enthusiastically answered various questions about the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), for example, discussing whether pollution in the sea is caused by garbage on the beach, or by seagulls, snails and algae. Along with answering questions about the SDGs, the students, thinking about the importance of a healthy lifestyle in everyday life, have also played a game in which they had to do various exercises – according to the rules of the game. Meanwhile, some of the most creative students were making posters reflecting their point of view on each of the SDG in the language of art.

The European Local Solidarity Days (EDLS) took place from 15 to 30 November in different municipalities of various European countries. The Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments has been involved in the organisation of the EDLS since 2016. The goal of EDLS is to strengthen European democratic values – diversity and solidarity – by supporting European municipalities and encouraging their residents to actively participate in local developments. This year, in parallel with the activity at Rekava secondary school, the events were also held in municipalities of Belgium, France, the Netherlands and Spain.
