Zoersel (Belgium)-Bohicon (Benin): winning by twinning
PLATFORMA has decided to reward the best city to city and region to region international cooperation projects. Twelve projects have been shortlisted out of 25 applications. This is how Zoersel (Belgium) is presenting its project with Bohicon (Benin):
Since 2011 the municipality of Zoersel and the city of Bohicon have a twinning. We are working together for capacity building of the local administration and political level in the two community’s. A strong and democratic local government stimulates the civil society and create chances for local associations and different civil initiatives. We are working peer to peer with our colleagues (the two librarians together, the two computer experts, aldermen, etc.). We discus together the challenges and difficulties and find together solutions, for Belgium and Benin. We understand each other well, because we working with the same construction of administration and local political system.
