On 25 September 2020, the 2030 Agenda celebrates its fifth anniversary. VVSG and its members celebrate this during the Week of the Sustainable Municipality, from 18 to 25 September. Participating municipalities display the SDG flag at the town hall and put their ‘Sustainable Heroes’ in the spotlight.

The heroes are local citizens, schools, companies and associations that contribute to the SDGs on a daily basis. In 2018, 90 municipalities participated, in 2019 95. Annually between 650 and 750 heroes were selected. The focus this year is on ‘corona heroes’.

The corona epidemic reminds us of the importance of sustainability and global connectedness and reveals the links between the social, ecological and economic dimensions of sustainability. With the Week of the Sustainable Municipality, we want to highlight sustainable efforts in times of corona.
