Reinforcing dialogue on gender equality and informed local government reform in Georgia

4 marzo 2020

The Eastern Partnership Coordination Seminar “Reinforcing dialogue on gender equality and informed local government reform in Georgia: Achievements, Challenges and Opportunities” took place on 18-19 February 2020 in Tbilisi, Georgia.

The National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (NALAG) hosted a coordination and learning seminar in the framework of PLATFORMA activities in the EU Neighbourhood East, with the support of CEMR and NALAS, the Network of Associations of Local Authorities of South-East Europe. It gave the possibility to participants to monitor and follow-up decentralisation and administrative reforms, develop an open and inclusive political dialogue with the national government and exchange on gender equality activities.

Participants were local elected and central government representatives and experts from Georgia, as well as experts from Ukraine and Moldova. Four Georgian signatories to the European Charter for Equality – Kutaisi, Lagodekhi, Ozurgeti and Rustavi – presented their reasons for signing up and the actions they are taking.

During the workshop, participants used the Equality Journey tool to map their gender equality objectives and prioritise actions. The session was wrapped up with a short introduction to the NALAS e-learning course on gender mainstreaming at the local level.

The seminar created an excellent opportunity for exchanges and dialogue between Georgian, Ukrainian and Moldavian representatives regarding gender equality activities, decentralisation strategy and ongoing local governments reforms in the three countries.
