The European Days of Local Solidarity are back in town: join the campaign!

5 novembre 2026

The 11th edition of the European Days of Local Solidarity (EDLS) is starting on 15 November. Check the EDLS agenda, it’s already filling up with various activities! From film screenings to public debates and awareness-raising actions in local markets, our partners are getting creative to raise once again the flag of local solidarity in towns and regions all over Europe. Now is the time to register your own activities through the online form.

Last year, more than 30 European municipalities, regions and provinces organised over 80 activities all over Europe. All raised their citizens’ awareness on the challenges of global sustainable development and international solidarity. What about your own town or city?

Joint commitments

To show their engagement, many local politicians joined the campaign over the last months and signed the EDLS Charter. Among them are deputy mayors from communes of Brussels-Capital Region (Belgium). Discover the videos of Ixelles, Jette and Evere. And let’s keep up the signatures! Encourage your local leaders to commit to international solidarity and sign the Charter! It would be even better if they record a video to explain what local and international solidarity means to them.

Joining forces

One more time, we are pulling together with the French Festival of Solidarities (Festisol), an international event launched almost 30 years ago that promotes and celebrates solidarity that is open to the world and to others. For the first time, Festisol will take place over one month (13 November-13 December 2026) to give greater prominence to initiatives organised outside the two
traditional weeks. Events are planned in France, 11 African countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon, Guinea, Madagascar, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Chad and Togo), Colombia and Brazil.

For the for second time, the EDLS are part of the Global Education Week (GEW) of the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe, an international awareness-rising initiative that inspires people to take action for a more sustainable and inclusive world. Through local initiatives and learning activities, it promotes civic engagement, global solidarity, and active citizenship for sustainable development. This year, the GEW motto is: My Voice, Our Action, A Common Future. It focuses on how critical thinking and engaging with different perspectives can reshape the narratives we live by turning awareness into collective action and contributing to a stronger democracy.
