Human Rights Go Local: What Works

The Conference is a high-level gathering with the goal of developing concrete proposals for implementing the international agenda at the local level using a human rights-based approach.

The event aims to provide state-of-the-art recommendations and encouragements to local government officials on how to effectively implement and commit to human rights at the local level. The Conference centres on the outcomes of the previous days’ expert Academy. The resulting document, called the Outcome Document, will be innovatively presented and adopted as a guideline for local governments.

Dignitaries include representatives from the Republic of Austria, the Federal Province of Styria, and the City of Graz. The highlight will be a panel discussion featuring representatives from UNESCO, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), UN-Habitat, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), and prominent local government representatives from around the world. The discussion will include elements of performance by the Austrian group InterACT, who will use applied theatre techniques to illustrate and moderate the Outcome Document.
