29 mars 2019

On March 15, the 26th General Assembly of partners from Fons Mallorquí approved the budget, lines of action and cooperation projects for the year 2019.

The Assembly of Partners is the top decision-making body of the Fons Mallorquí de Solidaritat i Cooperació. It unanimously approved all the documents presented by the Executive Committee, among which the financing of 19 cooperation projects worthy of the total amount of €1,161,307.

The projects presented are framed in the municipal development programs promoted by the Mallorcan Fund, which are carried out in Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Mali, Nicaragua, Niger, Perú, Western Sahara and Senegal, the latter being a newly incorporated country to carry out the alignment of the Mallorcan Fund with international strategies.

These programs are made up of different specific projects that cover various sectors of intervention, depending on the needs of each territory: education, health, public works, housing, local economic development, citizen participation, gender equality… The objective is to ensure a maximum efficiency in the use of available resources, while attaining greater visibility of the impact of interventions.

During the assembly, a €220,000 budget line was also approved to finance targeting countries on the southern and eastern shores of the Mediterranean and Central Asia. These are projects that have been identified through strategic alliances with local entities or with European partners and that coincide with the axis of strengthening democracy and governance, as well as support for humanitarian actions aimed at improving the situation of people who travel through the Mediterranean due to the conflicts faced in the Middle East, Central Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. The countries proposed for 2019 are Morocco, Tunisia, Lebanon, Palestine and Afghanistan.

Finally, it was approved to allocate €182,450 to projects of emergency and humanitarian aid, a call that will remain open until the exhaustion of the economic resources.

All members of Fons Mallorquí were invited to this assembly, that is to say, the 53 councils of Mallorca, the Government of the Balearic Islands, the Consell de Mallorca, the associations of Raiguer and the Pla de Mallorca and the University of the Balearic Islands.
