The importance of involving different stakeholders in peacebuilding processes

25 mars 2019

Marlène Siméon, director of PLATFORMA, underlines the importance of collaborations between cooperatives and other actors such as local and regional governments, in Cooperatives Europe’s latest #coops4dev research report.

« This research helps us to grasp the importance of involving different stakeholders in peacebuilding processes around the globe. In an increasingly fragmented and insecure world, the examples showcased here are important demonstrations of participatory and collective responses to the challenges facing communities, » Ms Siméon says.

The report Cooperatives and Peace: Strengthening Democracy, Participation and Trust – A Case Study Approachcovers 20 different case studies from more than 14 countries. It presents practical examples of cooperatives contributing to the empowerment of minority groups affected by conflict, providing decent work and sustainable development in fragile contexts, as well as supporting mitigation of conflict through partnerships with other actors and the provision of humanitarian support. It also includes a number of conclusions and recommendations to further enhance the role of cooperatives as peacebuilding actors.

Produced in the framework of the ICA-EU Partnership (#coops4dev), the research was supported by the Cooperatives Europe Development Platform (CEDP), co-authored by the Co-operative College, Kooperationen and Coopermondo, with input from all CEDP members.
