WM4U | Waste Management for Ukraine is up and running
25 avril 2025
Waste Management for Ukraine (WM4U) aims to enhance environmental sustainability in Ukraine, align the country’s waste management legislation with EU standards, and foster a culture of responsible waste management among citizens. This programme is implemented by SALAR International and Avfall Sverige, and funded by Sida.
In recent months, WM4U has achieved several key milestones, such as:
- Established Municipal Partnerships: Four municipal clusters in Ukraine have been connected with four Swedish counterparts to jointly strengthen waste management in Ukraine. In practice, this exchange will include general waste management training, workshops, study trips, planning, and the exchange of expertise and advice. For each municipal cluster, realistic goals, scope, focus areas, future organizational structures, and actions will be tailored to their local conditions and starting points.
- First Equipment Donation Completed: In March, Uppsala Municipality donated 191 waste bins to Lozova in the Kharkiv region. This marks the first donation within the WM4U initiative and represents a tangible step toward improving waste management in the war-affected municipality Lozova.
