Council of European Municipalities and Regions

The Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) brings together over 50 national associations of local and regional government in 40 countries of Europe. Its members are national associations of municipalities and regions, which all together, represent some 100,000 local and regional authorities.

CEMR works in many fields such as public services, regional policy, transport, the environment, equal opportunities, governance etc. CEMR’s objectives are twofold: to influence European legislation on behalf of local and regional authorities and to provide a platform for exchange between its member associations and their elected officials and experts.

CEMR is the European section of the world association United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), and plays an active role in promoting the local and regional contribution to development in partner countries. It hosts the Secretariat of PLATFORMA.
