2nd Decentralised cooperation Assises in Benin
The 2nd edition of Decentralised cooperation Assises in Benin organized by Cités Unies France(CUF) will take place in Cotonou from 7 to 9 November. It will be an opportunity to bring together local governments of Benin and their French partners, but also their European counterparts.
Being the first Assises since September 2010, this second edition will be an opportunity to assess the progress made and the changes which occurred in 6 years. The influence of national contexts on decentralisation policies will be highlighted, as well as their impact on the daily lives of local authorities. The Assises will also set milestones for the years to come.
Moreover, for the first time, these Assises will have a European dimension: these will be an opportunity to aim for better coordination between European partners’ actions. For instance, it appears that Dutch, Belgian and French local governments work with Benin municipalities on land registry and planning tools.
Other topics are: local economic development, working with youth, water, sanitation, waste management and energy. A first draft program will be made available on-line by mid-September.
European local authorities and their associations are warmly welcome to share their experiences!
