Africa – How to reinforce the relation between the EU & African LRAs (2015)

The primary and overarching objective of EU development cooperation1 is the eradication of poverty in the context of sustainable development and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). A reduction of poverty will help meet other challenges, such as HIV/AIDS, conflict, migration and sustainable development.
Through its aid cooperation, the EU is also promoting democratic values, which are considered essential to the success of development policies i.e. respect for human rights, democracy, fundamental freedoms and the rule of law, good governance, gender equality, solidarity and social justice.
