Eastern Partnership Coordination Seminar, “Reinforcing Dialogue on Local Government Reform in Moldova”
In the framework of PLATFORMA’s Eastern Partnership Programme, NALAS in partnership with the Congress of Local Authorities from Moldova (CALM) will host a national conference to reinforce multilateral dialogue and cooperation on local government reform in Moldova. The conference will enable a platform for political dialogue among levels of government, EU institutions, development partners and civil society on the future of local governance in Moldova in view of the EU integration process. The conference will enable local governments to communicate their perspectives effectively and unequivocally on the future of local public administration reform in Moldova. The conference will also enable peer to peer exchanges between policymakers and practitioners between Moldova and other EU member states and EU accession candidate countries in the Western Balkan.
This Conference marks the 15th anniversary of CALM – a national association that independently represents the collective interests of all first-tier local authorities from Moldova – constituting a beacon of unity in times of high polarization and division.
Through the Eastern Partnership Program of PLATFORMA, the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) aims to support policy dialogue at national levels in Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, and the institutional strengthening of the local government associations of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine to advance local government reforms and enable local authorities to contribute to the EU accession process.
The first day will be dedicated to the ongoing reform process in Moldova identifying the progress made, the challenges to face and potential bottlenecks to overcome. On the second day, bilateral and multilateral meetings will take place with development partners in Moldova to enhance CALM’s positioning, support advocacy efforts, and foster peer learning from European best practices.
