Amendments to the European Parliament report on the EU Global Strategy on Foreign and Security Policy

The EU Global Strategy on Foreign and Security Policy will be presented in June 2016 to all European leaders. It will replace the 2003 European Security Strategy and will cover a wide range of policy areas, from trade and security to development cooperation and humanitarian aid. The European Parliament’s report written by Sandra Kalniete MEP (EPP, Latvia) seeks to contribute to the work on this issue by the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
PLATFORMA proposed a number of amendments to reinforce the local dimension, which was seriously lacking in the initial draft. Only by involving local and regional authorities will EU’s external action be effective in achieving its goals!
