Belgian research on the vision of the “sustainable city” from the Global South
What does the sustainable city mean to the partners? What are the main characteristics of the sustainable city and which sub-themes are important to them? How do these visions differ from western definitions and models? How can international cooperation contribute to the sustainable city envisioned by the partners?
To answer these questions, members of the Sustainable Cities platform commissioned research on what the sustainable city means to partners from Africa, Asia & Latin America. The three Belgian regions are represented in this platform since VVSG (Association of Flemish Cities and Municipalities) – the platform’s lead organisation, UVCW (Union des Villes et Communes de Wallonie) and Brulocalis (Association of the City and Municipalities of Brussels) are among the five active members.
