In south-eastern Senegal, the Boundou Community Nature Reserve is a region subject to extreme conditions: months on end with temperatures exceeding 40°C, a short rainy season and constant pressure on water resources. At the heart of this region, the Conservatory of the Boundou Community Nature Reserve (CORENA) as been supporting local communities for years in soil restoration, sustainable water management and the development of resilient agriculture.
The ‘One tree, one inhabitant’ initiative, run in partnership with the French Department of Isère, aims to plant 50,000 trees by 2028 – one for every inhabitant. These trees are taking root in fields, village spaces, school gardens, private gardens and community areas, where they provide shade, fertility, moisture and new economic opportunities.
