9th Africities Summit

For the first time ever, an intermediary city, Kisumu City – Kenya, will host the 9th Edition of Africities Summit, from 17 to 21 May 2022. The theme for the 9th edition is, “The Role of Intermediary Cities of Africa in the implementation of 2030 Agenda of the United Nations and the African Union 2063 Agenda”.

  • Climate: CEMR will organise a capacity building workshop with national associations of UCLG Africa on climate and energy issues, as well as Fabrizio will intervene in Africities panels to bring our know-how on the covenant of mayors, multilevel governance, climat funding, etc.
  • Gender: The ‘Local Authorities Charter for Gender Equality in Africa’, the fruit of 4 years of cooperation between CEMR/PLATFORMA, UCLG Africa and UCLG will officially be launched on 19/05 during the Africities summit. One of our gender equality spokespersons, Emil Broberg, will participate in this momentous occasion along with our very own Secretary General, Fabrizio Rossi.
  • Youth: CEMR’s Young Elected Officials Committee will be represented by Joao Fortes, youngest mayor of Portugal (Municipality of Mourao), who will introduce the Committee and present local initiatives implemented in his territory for Youth during a Youth Day and a meeting with the young local officials from UCLG Africa (YELO Assembly).
