Commonwealth Local Government Conference 2019 POSTPONED

POSTPONED

In a world of serious challenges – funding effective and efficient services, building resilience against climate change and other environmental issues, developing local economies and creating jobs, providing a level playing field for everyone to leave no-one behind – it is vital to work with, and listen to our citizens to drive through the social and economic changes that will underpin the work of local government.

The Commonwealth Local Government Conference is CLGF’s flagship event, held every two years in different regions of the Commonwealth. In 2019 the CLGF conference will be held for the first time in Asia – in the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo. The conference brings together around 600 top local government policy makers, practitioners and other key stakeholders – including heads of government, ministers, mayors and council leaders, senior officials, and partners from development agencies, academia, civil society and the finance and corporate sector.

Delegates have a chance to learn about and discuss policy developments, share and learn about innovative practice and solutions to help policy makers and practitioners to improve their processes and services in their own areas. The exchange methods to be used include: plenary sessions, working groups, debates and study visits with a rich cultural programme and an international expo with innovative products and service on display.

Lessons learned can be taken back for application in local governments; to inform CLGF’s future strategic direction; and to feed in to high level forums such as the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (to be held in Rwanda in 2020) and the UN’s High Level Policy Forum.
