Conference “Quito and beyond – The New Urban Agenda”
From 18:30 to 21:00 the Representation of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia to the European Union (Rue Montoyer 47, 1000 Brussels) is organising a conference on “Quito and beyond – The New Urban Agenda”.
At the Habitat III Conference in Quito in October 2016, a New Urban Agenda was adopted. This action-oriented document sets global standards of achievement in sustainable urban development, rethinking the way we build, manage, and live in cities through drawing together cooperation with committed partners, relevant stakeholders, and urban actors at all levels of government as well as the private sector.
The New Urban Agenda will have to be implemented on the ground on the local level. What does the adoption of the New Urban Agenda hence mean for cities? How does the New Urban Agenda interact with the Urban Agenda for the European Union which has been formalized in the Pact of Amsterdam under the Dutch presidency in June? In addition, both the New Urban Agenda and the Urban Agenda for the European Union aim at fostering the implementation and localization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
In discussion with our guest speakers we would like to draw the bigger picture by showing the interrelation and interaction of the three Agendas and their concrete meaning for the local level.
With the participation of Ashok Sridharan (Lord Mayor of the City of Bonn and First Vice President of ICLEI, Local Governments for Sustainability),
Judit Torokne-Rozsa (Head of the Competence Centre for Inclusive Growth, Urban and Territorial Development, European Commission) and Roi Chiti (UN-Habitat, Regional and Interagency Coordinator. United Nations Habitat III Secretariat)
Interpretation German-English available.
