Theme:
Effective collaboration between engineering practitioners and policymakers on performance monitoring and verification to achieve accountability in the implementation of climate policy, with young professionals being a catalyst for adopting science-based approaches that reflect industry best practice.
At this engaging side event, we will explore the critical aspects of climate policy implementation, with a particular emphasis on performance monitoring and verification. We will highlight innovative solutions that address the existing implementation gaps and showcase the transformative role of young engineers and industry practitioners. The event seeks to facilitate science-based policy adoption that is aligned with industry best practice by bringing together a panel of policymakers and engineering practitioners.
Key Discussion Points:
- Closing the Gap: We will explore the challenges in climate policy implementation, focusing on the often overlooked phase of performance monitoring and verification. Our aim is to identify where these gaps exist, at expert and political level and how collaboration can help bridge them.
- Youth as Catalysts: Our event underscores the vital role of young professionals (especially engineers), and young politicians, in driving science-based policy forward. By sharing their industry viewpoints and practical case studies, our young practitioners are positioned to influence the adoption of best practices.
- Performance Monitoring and Verification: We will dive deep into the intricacies of effective monitoring and verification methods and their significance in ensuring the success of climate policy implementation. Decentralised cooperation among cities and peer to peer reviews will also be showcased as an effective means for implementation of climate policy.
