COP29 | Combating climate change across generations: Reinforcing global to local policy action for education
A COP29 Side Event hosted by CEMR/PLATFORMA together with the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN).
Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Global Citizenship Education (GCE) have emerged as key facilitators of goals to combat climate change while encouraging economic growth and human development. Over time, the field of ESD has seen robust uptake by the international community and been inextricably linked to global policy objectives, including those of UNFCCC, WHO, and other UN bodies.
How effective are current conceptualizations of ESD/GCE, related implementation strategies, and ESD/GCE policy production?
How has global momentum for ESD/GCE been translated to effective local practice?
This session will present projects and case studies on ESD/GCE implementation, highlighting actionable insights relevant across various contexts. It will also share knowledge and critiques from leading scholars to inform current and future educational planning.
With, among others, Marianne Overton, CEMR Spokesperson on Climate (Opening Remarks) and Clifford Galea, Member of CEMR and PLATFORMA Young Elected Officials Committee (YEOC).
