PLATFORMA, United and Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and most notably the African section, United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLGA), the International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF), the French Association of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (AFCCRE), the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR), the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, the Diputaciò of Barcelona and the City of Paris organise a seminar with local elected representatives from Maghreb, so as to strengthen work areas developed in the context of the Structured dialogue.

Taking place in the context of the World Congress of local and regional elected representatives and the 4^th Congress of UCLG, the seminar will aim at exchanging with the participants on the content of the new Communication on local and regional authorities published by the European Commission in May 2013 ; exchanging information on the development of national legal framework s in the Maghreb and the role local and regional authorities can play ; looking into inclusion at the local level, from a gender perspective ; understanding the development of the regional dimension and the territorial approach in the Maghreb region ; supporting the development of research on associations of LRAs.

This is the third of six seminars; the remaining events will be organised in the Machrek, Asia-Pacific and Eurasia regions. These events will take place in the scope of a work programme specifically designed for partner countries and implemented from 2012 to 2015.
