French Association of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions

The AFCCRE is a national association of local and regional authorities created in 1951 through the impetus given by a certain number of local elected representatives. Today, the association represents close to 1500 territorial communities, municipalities, districts, regions and groups of municipalities.

Founder of the twinning movement in Europe after the Second World War, the AFCCRE has diversified its actions little by little, in order to cover all European policies directly or indirectly concerning French territorial communities, and especially the European development cooperation policy.

The AFCCRE is the French section of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR), which is hosting PLATFORMA Secretariat. The AFCCRE is also member of the world organisation of territorial communities, United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG). The general secretariat of the AFCCRE is based in Orléans.
