President of Moldova attends “Women Mayors – EU Ambassadors” event
Moldovan President Maia Sandu urged 150 women mayors to “talk to citizens about the benefits of European integration for their families and communities” during the event “Women mayors – EU ambassadors” organised yesterday (23 July) in Chisinau. Violeta Crudu, Mayor of Cruzești, President of the Network of Women Mayors of the Congress of Local Authorities from Moldova (CALM) and PLATFORMA spokesperson for CALM, chaired the meeting.
This event was by organised by the Network of Women Mayors of the Congress of CALM, in collaboration with the Network of Women Deputies from the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.
“Today, we have a real opportunity to integrate into the European Union and modernize Moldova, but we need clarity and courage to continue on this path,” President Maia Sandu stated.
“Citizens must decide what kind of future they want – in a safe and strong country, in the great European family, or in an isolated and vulnerable country. We need to have the courage to make the right choice, despite the scare tactics and lies spread by those who do not respect our country,” she made clear.
President Sandu urged women mayors to “talk to citizens about the benefits of European integration for their families and communities”. She stressed that the European integration meant “putting the country in safety” with “more resources to modernise municipalities: European roads, access to water and sanitation, modern nurseries, schools and hospitals, quality public services.”
Those are “projects we have already started with the support of the European Union,” she added. “This is the beginning of a journey on which we must move forward together decisively.”
Women mayors mentioned that the Local Public Administration must be at the negotiating table, along with other decision-makers, “because local leaders largely determine how information reaches citizens.”
