The V World Forum of Local Economic Development came to an end
The 5th World Forum for Local Economic Development (WFLED) took place from 26 May to 1 June 2021. FAMSI was part of its Organising Committee, and in addition to this commitment, FAMSI also co-chairs the presidency of the UCLG Committee on Local Economic and Social Development.
The Forum dealt with three main thematic areas:
1. The Territory as a basis for social, economic and environmental innovation;
2. Territorial economic models to address inequality in the current pandemic crisis;
3. The future of work and the work of the future from a territorial perspective in the context of crisis generated by Covid-19.
Hosted by Córdoba, Argentina, the V WFLED addressed some of the most pressing issues related to LED and its potential to support the transition to a sustainable future.
With more than 12 organising institutions, 200 speakers from 60 countries from all over the world distributed over the 5 days of the Forum, 45 sessions and 58 hours of transmission in three languages (Spanish, English and French) it has been stressed that the pandemic is exacerbating the consequences of pre-existing inequalities, showing the drawbacks of a largely unbalanced and unsustainable development model, while revealing new forms of vulnerability.
Responding to the crisis requires profoundly innovative and transformative solutions, to enable a transition to more resilient, inclusive, socially and environmentally sustainable societies. Territories are key to this effort. The pandemic crisis itself has a strong territorial dimension. Sub-national governments (regions and municipalities) are at the forefront of crisis management and response, and face its largely asymmetric health, economic, social and fiscal impact, within countries, but also between regions and regions. local areas.
The 2030 Agenda, and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), constitute a relevant framework to channel this transformative transition process, through integrated and systemic approaches.
The first conclusions of the emerging good practices in the policy responses showed the importance of adopting an integrated and multi-level territorial approach.
