Venice 2030: the conclusions of the multi-stakeholder dialogue are online

28 January 2019

The conclusion of the  November ‘Venice City Solutions 2030-Financing the SDGs at the local level’ event have just been published by the co-organisers, AICCRE, UN-Habitat, UNCDF, UNDP and UCLG. More than 100 representatives of local, metropolitan and regional governments, as well as national governments, UN agencies and Development banks, participated to this event, financially supported by PLATFORMA and the United Nations Advisory Committee of Local Authorities (UNACLA).

Participants identified and discussed the existing solutions to face the challenge of how to finance the implementation of the SDGs at local level. The report especially insists on:

  • the need for concrete financial support mechanisms and tools for local and regional governments to achieve the 2030 Agenda
  • the need to establish dialogue mechanisms between central and local governments to achieve the SDGs at local level
  • the need to increase awareness about the need for local and regional governments to access the necessary financial resources to implement the 2030 Agenda
  • the need for more data about dedicated municipal budgets to align to the SDGs
