VNG International: Towards better futures for all

“A municipality should represent its citizens, and respond to the needs and requirements of its citizens – all of them, men as well as women,” explains VNG International in a recently published booklet entitled “Towards better futures for all – For gender sensitive local governance“. 

The International Cooperation Agency of the Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG International) aims at achieving its core mission – “Building better futures” – by strengthening democratic and inclusive local governance, as well as including perspectives in which inequalities are reduced, i.e. reducing inequalities between social groups, races, ethnic and religious minorities and between genders.

“Local government (representatives) can only be truly inclusive and participatory if all men and women can participate”, the text reads.
