30 years | Fons Mallorquí has carried out 2,000 projects with nearly 200 NGOs and local entities
The Fons Mallorquí of Solidarity and Cooperation celebrated its 30 years of history with a great institutional event where it took stock of the work and put on the table the future challenges that the entity has set itself. The event was attended by the president of Fons Mallorquí, Llorenç Perelló, the president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, and the Minister of Family and Social Affairs of the Govern de les Illes Balears, Catalina Cirer, among other representatives of Mallorca’s public administrations, partners of the Fons Mallorquí.
Throughout these 30 years of history, the Fons Mallorquí has carried out 2,000 cooperation, emergency and/or humanitarian aid projects, carried out in countries around the world and with nearly 200 NGOs, entities and local administrations, both from Mallorca and from other places in the world.
19 October 1993 was when the Council of Mallorca, and eleven councils: Binissalem, Escorca, Felanitx, Lloret de Vistalegre, Llubí, Marratxí, Palma, Santa Maria del Camí, Selva, Sencelles and Sineu, together with the organization Justícia i Pau de Mallorca, promoted the creation of an economic fund to manage the 0.7% that public administrations should allocate to the most disadvantaged countries.
The president of Fons Mallorquí, Llorenç Perelló, has highlighted that “over the years, one of the main lines of work has been to encourage the councils and civic organizations of Mallorca to establish bonds of solidarity and cooperation with local administrations and organizations of countries of the South. This has been possible thanks to the fact that the Majorcan Fund has become a space of consensus where, since its inception, all the political groupings have been in agreement with the proposed lines of work, as long as the Fund allows articulate a public policy dedicated to the fulfillment of Human Rights around the world”.
The birthday party also had a round table, moderated by the journalist Maria Antònia Serra, and in which the current president of the Fons Mallorquí and mayor of Alaró, Llorenç Perelló, participated, the former mayoress of Algaida and president of the Majorcan Fund during the legislature from 2019 to 2023, Maria Antònia Mulet, the former mayor of Montuïri and president of the Majorcan Fund during the legislature from 2015 to 2019, Joan Verger, the former mayor of Llucmajor and president of the Mallorquí Fund during the legislature from 2011 to 2015, Joan Jaume.
Under the slògan “Toca Fons, and gain momentum to reach anywhere in the world”, the event was used to present the results of this awareness campaign in which 80 percent of the partner entities participated of the Majorcan Fund and which aims to make all the work done by the Majorcan Solidarity Fund worthwhile throughout its 30-year history.
