Do you know what your city is doing to contribute to global sustainable development? Did you know that solidarity is not only about charity and fund raising? Discover how, across Europe, cities and regions are playing a key role in development cooperation. Learn more about what they are doing to involve citizens!
International youth mobility, hosting of refugees, water and sanitation, birth registration… these are what development cooperation and solidarity are all about. Join one or several EDLS activities and discover what your city or region is concretely doing to tackle the challenges of global sustainable development.
Cities and regions contribute to a necessary culture of solidarity and active citizenship that puts the focus on the interdependencies of our worlds’ sustainability. As players of local and global sustainable development, cities and regions are key to promoting and hosting local initiatives to inform and mobilise citizens for global sustainable development.
For this 4th edition of the EDLS, more than 45 cities and regions are organising 50 different activities, held from 15 to 30 November in Albania (Peqin, Permet, Kukës…), Belgium (Edegem, Roeselare), France (Lille, associated with Lomme and Hellemmes, Nantes, Rennes), Italy (Alcamo, Balestrate, Capaci, Carini, Castellammare del Golfo, Cinisi, Isola delle Femmine, Partinico), Latvia (Adazi, Jurmala, Pargauja, Preili), the Netherlands (Maastricht, Zoetermeer) and Spain (Archena, Barcelona, Cáceres, Calella, Canet de Mar, Córdoba, Getxo, Montornès del Vallès, Palma de Mallorca, Sabadell, Sant Adrià de Besòs, Santa Coloma de Gramenet…).
A pan-European initiative
The European Days of Local Solidarity (EDLS) are an annual 2-week campaign run by European cities and regions committed to inform and mobilise their citizens on global solidarity and sustainable development issues. Launched in 2016, the EDLS are coordinated by PLATFORMA, the pan-European coalition of local and regional governments, and their associations, active in town-to-town and region-to-region development cooperation. This initiative is developed under the Framework Partnership Agreement signed between CEMR-PLATFORMA and the European Commission. PLATFORMA is co-financed by the European Union.
