The localisation of the 2030 Development Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) represents a challenge that especially involves local governments. Without their active participation, it will not be possible to achieve even 65% of the goals defined for the next eight years (Cities Alliance, 2015), but the SDGs also require the commitment of an active and informed citizenry.
Therefore, one of the main challenges is to raise awareness among the population about the importance of this agenda and, in particular, to obtain the necessary feedback and participation of citizens and actors in the territory to ensure its fulfilment with the greatest possible impact, in other words, to build a current of global citizens, responsible with humanity and the planet.
To this end, the partner cities, with the support of the Unions of Ibero-American Capitals and Cities (UCCI), are implementing a project entitled “Promoting awareness of the 2030 Agenda at the territorial level for the localisation of the SDGs”. The general objective of the project is to provide an innovative mechanism for the implementation of the SDGs in the territory through the fulfilment of its specific objectives: work on education, awareness-raising, participation, monitoring and communication to citizens for the localisation of the 2030 Agenda.
For this objective, a consultancy will be hired to methodologically support the development of a process that includes: a workshop for the exchange of experiences between participating cities, a pilot exercise in the field and the systematisation of the experience through a practical guide.
This will allow us to obtain three results: 1) Exchange of experiences and good practices of the partner cities of the project regarding awareness, participation, communication and monitoring by the population of their territory for the implementation of the SDGs. 2) Pilot validation of a strategy implemented in the territory and 3) the development of a practical guide for the implementation of awareness-raising, participation, communication and monitoring and communication of the SDGs in the territories.
