Fons Mallorquí presents the campaign “Committed with the 2030 Agenda”

10 May 2019

Since 2018, Fons Mallorquí incorporates the promotion and application of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a priority axis of action. Nowadays, the entity presents the campaign “Committed to the 2030 Agenda”, which will bring together training and awareness actions for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in Mallorca.

The 2030 Agenda is the new international development program that was approved by the General Assembly of the United Nations in September 2015. This Agenda aims to be a tool to fight for sustainable human development around the world, the fundamental bases of which are the eradication of poverty, the reduction of vulnerabilities and inequalities, and the promotion of sustainability.

It is a unique opportunity to transform the world by 2030 and guarantee human rights for all. The 2030 Agenda is universal: it recognizes that the development needs are the same for all, regardless of where each person lives and addresses almost all the problems they face ‘mankind is currently facing’. Everyone needs health, education, housing, employment, energy, equality, peace and healthy ecosystems to live with dignity. At present and in future generations.

With the title “Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development”, the final document adopted by the Member States of the United Nations defines 17 objectives, called Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and 169 goals. They are commitments that, apart from the States, belong to all citizens, all companies, all organizations, all public administrations and, therefore, all municipalities.

The 2030 Agenda tacitly includes municipalities as agents to achieve the objectives set. For this reason, through the “Committed to the 2030 Agenda” campaign, the Mallorcan Fund will promote various training activities so that its partners, among which there are all the Town Councils of Mallorca, can be located in the compliance with ODS. The campaign will be complemented by awareness and communication actions open to the public in order to present the 17 objectives and contribute to their accomplishment on the Mallorcan territory.
