PLATFORMA–NALAS peer exchange | Advancing decentralisation and EU-aligned reforms

28 November 2025

Representatives of Local Government Associations (LGAs) from across Europe and the Eastern Partnership met in Brussels on 25–26 November 2025 for a two-day peer exchange hosted by NALAS and PLATFORMA, in cooperation with CALM and NALAG. The event, held within the framework of PLATFORMA’s Eastern Partnership Programme, aimed to strengthen institutional development and reinforce the role of LGAs in advancing decentralisation and local governance reforms.

Speakers shared practical insights on supporting municipalities in aligning with EU standards, managing EU funds, and engaging effectively in national policy dialogue. Their contributions underscored the essential role LGAs play before and after EU accession processes, ensuring that local governments can both contribute to and benefit from broader transformation efforts.

The second day focused on enhancing LGAs’ financial and organisational capacities. Experts presented new funding opportunities and ongoing EU calls, providing participants with hands-on guidance for successful project planning and financing.

The final session, led by the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (NALAG), explored how LGAs can organise and manage thematic committees to better coordinate policies, mobilise expertise, and advocate for their members.
