3 sessions you can’t miss at Climate Chance 2017

7 September 2017

The biggest moment of the year for non-state actors to shape the global climate agenda is about to begin. If you are going to Climate Chance 2017 and you are determined to reduce climate impact, here are 3 sessions you don’t want to miss:

Overcoming climate impact through city-to-city partnerships

“A friend in need is a friend indeed”, as the saying goes. Thanks to decentralised cooperation, cities here and elsewhere can help each other in times of need, by exchanging expertise and best practices on a wide range of policies and actions. By applying this to climate issues, low carbon societies will be much easier to reach for everyone. That’s why a coalition on decentralised cooperation was launched by PLATFORMA – the voice of cities and regions for development cooperation – and other partners. Come to the forum to discuss the role of decentralised cooperation in the COP23 climate negotiations, and to exchange best practices in the field of decentralised cooperation.

Session: ‘Forum Decentralised cooperation and partnerships’
When and where: 12/09 | 9:00 – 11:00 | Room Argane 2
Organiser: PLATFORMA, AFCCRE, Cités Unies France, Enda, French Europe Ministry

The Covenant of Mayors sets the focus on Africa

In the global threat that is climate change, towns and cities are heavily impacted, but the Global Covenant of Mayors gives you an opportunity to unite and fight back. In this session, we will set the focus on Africa. With the Council of European Municipalities and Regions and the Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa, we will identify and discuss the main challenges Africa has to face in terms of climate and energy change.

Session: ‘Global Covenant of mayors: Sub-Saharan Africa and Mediterranean regions’
When and where: 12/09 | 1:30 – 3:00 | Tazerzite room
Organisers: CEMR, Covenant of mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa, European Commission

The circular economy makes the world go round

The linear economy has been devastating for the climate. It is urgent to switch to a circular economy; meaning a reduced environmental impact of production, distribution and consumption. This starts in our towns and cities. At the Circular economy and climate forum, CEMR will explain the state of negotiations on implementing the circular economy in Europe, showcase best practices and discuss the circular economy assessment methodology.

Session: ‘Forum Circular economy and climate’
When and where:
13/09 | 8:30 – 10:30 | Room Igoudar 2
Organisers: CEMR, ACR+, Orée
