Launch of first CONNECT-Covenant of Mayors exchange: work with colleagues on climate!

26 November 2018

The CONNECT team is happy to present to you a new opportunity for learning, through an exchange with colleagues: in this case specifically an exchange between signatories of the Covenant of Mayors in Europe and the Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa (CoM SSA).

We have selected CoM SSA signatories from municipalities in Benin (Groupement Intercommunal des Collines) and Togo, who are interested in jointly addressing the ‘development of a climate plan’ in an exchange with CoM EU signatories. We are looking for cities engaged in the CoM EU initiative that have worked on this and are interested in sharing knowledge and approaches with their Beninese and Togolese counterparts.

The format of this exchange will be a ‘ CONNECT group exposure visit’. This means that a group of 10 municipalities will come to visit your city to learn more about and discuss the challenge of a ‘climate plan’ as a group.

Are you interested in CONNECTing with other municipalities?

Applying is quick and easy: you can find the application form here (FR). You then only have to add a letter of engagement in French, which you can find here (FR). The deadline for applying is the 3rd of December. If you need support, or in case of questions, please contact connect@ccre-cemr.org. The exchange will take place in French and therefore all upcoming communication will be in French.

The exchange is expected to take place early January. Details on the date and place will follow after the match with a European CoM town, municipality or city has been made by the CONNECT selection committee.

Good to know

  • All costs (travel, food, accommodation) are covered except for salary. Because the municipal expert is asked to supply his/her time, the signed letter of engagement is necessary
  • The exchange will take about one work week and 2/3 workdays of preparation and wrap-up.
  • It is a one-off exchange: we aim to give the requesting municipality enough tools in the week of the exchange, to further tackle the issues themselves. If follow-ups are desired by participants, they are surely welcome but outside the CONNECT exchange
  • The exchange will take place before 21 January 2019
